School holiday program – July 2012
Due to the success of the previous Robotics Training Week at Tswane University of Technology there will be another week of robotics training during the July school holiday. This time it will take place at UNISA (University of South Africa) in colaboration with Tswane University of Technology (TUT).
The focus for this week will be development of skills necessary for entering the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and World Robot Olympiad (WRO) competitions (A novice and advanced program will be presented).
No experience required
The novice program is for kids with little to no experience with the Mindstorms NXT LEGO Robotics system. The course will cover the basics of robot building, programming and tactical mission planning.
The advance course will focus on:
- Advanced programming using NXT-G,
- Advanced building of robots for various tasks or missions, such as shooting, dropping, or collecting of balls and/or objects.
- Building gadgets that can be connected to a robot to complete tasks. Gadgets such as grippers, hooks, scoops, claws, etc.
- And fault finding: “Why is my robot not doing exactly what I programmed it to do?”
- Strategic planning of missions or tasks.
A group of 15 mechatronics students from TUT will be there to guide you and provide support where needed. These students are experts in building and programming LEGO Robots
Detail information regarding WRO and FLL competitions will be shared.
